Stations suck. They're pathetic for battle. You put one up and no matter what, if someone attacks it and it's not a homebase, you're pretty much guaranteed for it to be a zero-risk kill for them, even if you have large amounts of turrets.

I suggest buffing Shield coverage for objects docked to stations up to 100% instead of 50%, so you can only damage docked entities on stations when the station's shields are totally gone. That way offline attacks are less problematic, and station assaults present a constant threat throughout the entire battle.

Why not just have a multiplayer for blocks on a station? Placing down a shield would be worth 5 on a ship for example, same applies for HP and Armour.

I also wouldnt say 100% sheild sharing, because then there is no reason to at least try to make a hanger. Stick frame docking stations with 10mill+ shields would be both an eyesore and annoying.

While I can understand sharing more of the shields to turrets so that defense is more formidable, I'm not sure how well this actually fixes the issue. All you'd have to do to counter it is up your ion damage to negate this. Maybe there should be structural bonuses for stations to go with the shield increase?

this brings up an idea i had: supplementary stations. what these do is you would have stations in a different sector close by (maybe a minimum distance away) that provides some cool effect to the station it's linked to. For example, constant shield regen, block repair over time, more turret damage, cheaper shields, ext. and while you can't loops these effects, you can make a massive web to make it very hard to assault your main station or it's supplementary stations. this also encourages expanding, and makes outposts feasible, but not an easy undertaking

I do like the supplementary station idea, there needs to be a way to distinguish between a main station and a supplementary, so that support systems would grant an effect that would transmit to short range linked system, maybe linked through faction module.

maybe a map line, similar to a warpgate line? and I was thinking some sort of multi-block or computer for determining the effect, that way the whole station doesn't have to go down to remove it

I'd be ok with making shield caps have 200-300% more shield capacity (or more?) for stations, since un-protected stations are worthless. Also buffing hull HP when it's used on a station.

I think the most important thing for stations is removing the "in combat" shield regeneration nerf. Without that, shield regeneration translates to ability to shake off DPS. 1m regen/sec requires more than 1m DPS to take it down. A sufficiently large station could thus shake off attacks capable of destroying a planet in seconds.

Buffing turret shielding would be a good move too. These two things combined would give a lot more motivation to construct non-home bases.
