While I am aware that there are plex lifts .... and rail elevators and grav tubes abound, I think plex lifts are waaay to slow, and rail elevators and grav tubes require an obnoxious number of blocks both tube area and logic (logic especially for grav tubes that are anything but straight line)

IMHO its not a great deal to ask for a turbolift or ziptube system that you can connect 2 entry/exit blocks with a series of transport conduit blocks.

If rails could only go faster maybe they'd be the solution. *sigh*

All you really need is something that launches a player in a given direction. If logic is too large, we need this.

    I'm happy with rail elevators.

Don't want to bother with logic?

I personally wouldn't mind a really simple gravlift block system. Player enters block, player moves in block orientation direction quicklyish. Disembark blocks slow the player to 0.5-1m/s so they can get out safely.

Another style of ziptube, I could run with that no problem :)

Yeah, see, that's the problem with rails. They're a great system, they really are! But with that level of genericness and that level of user control they also become a pain in the ass to use for the most routine, basic things, like elevators and doors...

I'm pretty sure rails are going to be faster in the future. Also, on grav tubes- for a simple single axis of travel tube, you really only a 1x1 tube. I'd much rather have in-ship player teleporters than what is essentially a pneumatic tube, anyway.

i am pretty sure it will totaly not be faster.....
it's not like they couldn't get the number higher...... if they wanted it to be faster they would have added it with the rail system.....
when the rails go even faster, there is also a possibilty of lag or physics problems, just guesses though.
if you want it faster use the speed computer, thats as far as it will go and probably as fast as it will stay.

teleport pad? thats freaking BS it ain't pretty and you can use it to cheat, just dock a ship on a station make the ship very very very very very very long put a teleporter at begin and side, remove the middle and you have free superfast transportation.
also even starwars and those sort of movies don't have such things.
together with that is that the scripting would be really hard, not so easy as you think at all.
if your ship is moving and you use the teleporter, it will already have moved a few blocks to hundreds of blocks.
programming this that you will exualy end up at the right spot will be way harder then just a same sort of thing as warpgate, they dont move.

about the lift, i don't know if i exualy like the idea but i'm pretty sure they won't add something that is already possible in 3 different ways.
otherwise they could also add such a docking thing people were talking about a time ago, an IRC or something. together with those things, it would be the first multiblock structure you can place, not counting paste mode as that is a bit different. i think that would give some extra problems with scripting and programming the things.

I'm pretty sure they set the rail speed lower initially because it was just a testing number and because rails weren't exactly optimized yet.

How is this cheating, exactly? All it's doing is removing all the pain of walking or falling that entire distance.

It would be relatively easy to make it happen, now that we have the aligned astronauts feature. Just move the astronaut to that location. If the game can handle putting you back in your seat while you exit the ship at high speed, I think it can handle teleporters.

were and was is to talk about the past.... that means it is at the right speed now, you know there was first a dev build to test the stuff?
there they configured the speed to the right things. and if you still want rails faster, stack them. entity on rails that has rails with an entity on it then the last entity will go faster.

as i said, on short distances it's not cheating although it makes interior more useless.
if you dock a ship and make it very long, talking about like from 1 planet to another, then remove the middle and you have easy teleportation from 1 planet to another. thats what i call cheating. bring it up to a bigger scale and it would be even worse.

you got me on that fair and squere.
    i kinda guessed it

it sounds like something they could do, maybe but im not sure.
if i had to choose between the teleportation pad and the ziptube, i'd say ziptube, only because of the thought seeing someone shooting by in a tube :D[/QUOTE]

The massive amount of lag and other issues from multi-sector entities means these would be extremely rare, especially since server admins would not be fans of them. Besides, how is that any different from a small warpgate connecting two planets?

Well ... teleports and all that would be sweet but as mentioned probably create lag hell.

I'm just looking for something that has an entry/exit block(s) and connecting tubes (without which it won't function).
