    Debris here, but with something different.

    I figured that peoples' opinions of current matters are about as varied as the menu at my favorite Austrian coffee house, and want to make sense of it all, in a neat, orderly fashion.

    So, I'll ask a question, and see people's answers.

    I don't want to see anybody responding to each others' posts negatively, so nobody say anything bad to each other. If you feel somebody got part of something wrong, then take it to a pm.     What is everyone's opinions on Incap leaving the community?

    'tis a shame. Needless to say, I like Incap and I'll miss 'em.

    In other news, MisterVec is back. We are currently rejoicing.

    it sucks seeing someone that is important in the community leave, we are a small community and depending on their role impact on the people around them, affects the community allot.

    What is everyone's opinions on Incap leaving the community?
    Bound to happen a few times, thinking otherwise would lead to false expectations about what one should see coming from a community just as much in alpha as the game it's based around is. That doesn't stop it from stinging a little when it does happen; I'm just glad that Incap still occasionally checks up on the news. I'm sure he'll be back when the game has progressed a bit... Not everyone can sift through the bugs, the promises of unimplemented features in uncertain futures, or the lack of in-game social structuring and still call Starmade fun. Those who can, power to you, continue helping make this game better. Those who can't, no hard feelings, just have a bit of patience and the rest of us will get everything solved, and when you come back we'll have a bunch of shiny new toys and a bunch of new reasons to use them.

    I think it mostly has to do with the sudden growth of Starmade after the Yogscast did their short 3 episode let's-play of Starmade waaaaaaay back when. Show them Starmade currently and they'll ask you what game that is, it's changed quite a bit.
    The Yogswarm brought in a lot of new people, not all of them a part of the Yogswarm directly. Friends told friends, rumors spread around the internet, etc. In the span of an hour this game went from one decently sized server and thirty people in chat to hundreds of servers and over a thousand people in chat. It was chaos. Utter chaos... But hey, attention is usually good, even if we don't necessarily have attention in our plans.
    This massive influx of people eventually formed into nearly innumerable factions. A small subset of them had a forum thread, but almost all of them kept things in-game. Lots of coming across random people in the middle of nowhere and firefights ensuing.
    At this point people were still learning the ins and outs of the game.
    Now we're left with the remains of the Yogswarm's influence on Starmade and they're doing faction things that the factions system isn't built to handle. Heck, doing things that the majority of the game wasn't built to handle, and Schema's trying to 'modernize' it bit by bit to be able to handle whatever game-play or misuse scenarios we toss at it.

    I think that once the game has been updated with the... So to speak 'modernized' versions of it's current features (We've already seen data structures and graphics get 'modernized', and I have an unconfirmed itch that thrust/economy/factories are coming up next) that it will be able to hold up against the expectations of people who are looking for a game that plays like a beta rather than an alpha.

    Honestly for me, it's a mix. Incap never did like me much, and you can find evidence of that in his reason for leaving (he mentioned us as much as possible without actually saying my name.) so I'm glad that tensions with the TE will cool down a bit as a result. But at the same time, Incap was an important part of the community, and a good influence on shipbuilding in almost all of the factions, directly or indirectly.

    As long as the larger cannons fire slower and the smaller cannons fire faster, I'm happy.

    I think Calbiri is aiming to influence Schema into making them Fixed Ranges and firerates? with More blocks just giving more DPS :u

    But I yam still waiting for mah artillery o -o Then I shall make booms, and Booms tend to please me *^* So all is good. Thought I do worry about the Balance of the weapons :/

    What is your opinion on the weapons update?
    Oooooh boy. This is going to be a big one. At the moment, the new weapons system is the only thing about the game that sports so many different opinions on it, yet isn't full of arguments. Well, at least not yet.

    CyberTao is right about the balancing part, though. You should all be extremely worried, because when it comes out it's going to be going from early test by the Testers to being used by EVERYONE, and I doubt that the initial balancing is going to be perfect considering the crazy and nasty stuff people will put the system through. A right and proper re-balancing is likely going to be on the side of the next few major updates, and again when defenses are changed as well. I expect folks to put the system through the ringer and find the most OP combinations so we can work on those specifically to make them a viable and unique choice without overshadowing the other choices.

    I think that I'm going to focus on missiles. More missiles and MOAR DAKKA!
    Some supporting cannon assets and beams just to make things look awesome are also expected.

    Mmm. Mainly looking forward to beams, and combining them with logic systems. Creating broad-siding ships might well become an actual possibility... Also, needing less blocks on turrets, but not sacrificing range would be real nice. I'd like to build stuff closer to source material, where turrets tend to be way smaller.

    Maybe... Turrets should be able to be connected to systems on board of the actual ship, decreasing the size of the moving parts, but not their effectiveness.

    About lasers:
    I think putting lasers on turrets, or other AI controlled crafts, will be one of the most OP weapons. The instant straight line combined with the aiming "skill" of the AI just creates weapons, that will never miss. So I think, lasers need a nerf right away, just because of that. Either their power consumption must be very high, or they do not deal much damage, OR shields absorb their damage(10% shields absorb only 10% damage, 100% shields absorb all damage). Automatically fired lasers could also allow for building traps(laser cage e.g.).
