If you noticed in the general discussion there is several suggestions on USD or universal standard docking systems.
There is a number of problems inherent to all of them.
The various systems suggested are incompatible with one another.
The ship that docks must be the ship that undocks. In short if ship A docks with Ship B ship A Must initialize the undocking.
The systems also don't allow for connection to smaller vessels in general.
The suggestion is to allow rail dockers to target other rail dockers. Thus a single rail docker could be used for ship to ship connections. It would mean creating a standard for ships would be much easier a single rail docker
at the bottom center of any hatch would work for all ships.
If you set a flag for both rail dockers involved then either ship could initialize the undocking.
