I know we can edit the config to do this ourselves, but it would be nice to see as the default.

Make things that area always going to be used together stack with each other. Computers and their modules spring to mind. Power/Shield generators and their capacitors. All of the logic blocks. The 4 hand guns!

Others that while not always used together are thematically similar enough to warrant stacking: Light rods and their matching blocks, all of the plant life for a given planet type, the "junk" blocks like sand/stone/lava/etc (the ones that can't be used for crafting), foliage with wood, regular and turret docking blocks, refined ore/crystal with the raw ore/crystal, rock/capsules/carved rock...

We've got a large number of blocks, but still running on pretty much a Minecraft level of storage and inventory management. You've already got the stacking mechanic in place, lets use it!

I'd like to see optional configs available in Community Content under "mods". I didn't find any with a simple "stack" search. Has anyone uploaded any? Maybe a zip file full of different optional configs. (E.g. "This one is just a basic tweak of the default. That one is a complete overhaul. The third is somewhere in between....")

That screams for 2 sub-categories: Mods which encourage ships which are not good for vanilla servers and "vanilla-compatible" mods.

Should be much easier to code than complicated physics :)
Storages should also be able to choose Stacks instead of just items!

Its hiding in the blockconfig file, I believe.

You gotta edit the actual code, but not everyone is comfortable doing that. Hence my desire for it to be a default.

I'm talking about uploading different blockconfig files to the Community Content area, for people who don't want to muck around in XML files themselves, but still want to change how blocks are stacked.

Could be that non-compatible builds could just have a link to agreeable mod files in their description. That would be a nice touch.
E.g. "I built this fighter with the enhanced block config linked below for best results..."

That way, people could swap out config files quickly just to see how a build performs in its native environment.

And for the record, yes, it is in the BlockConfig file for anyone that wants to change it. Search for the <InventoryGroup> tag and you'll see how it's used.

When stack limits are implemented, multislots will get a little weird. They'd be kind of like an extra 4 free inventory slots out of nowhere if you could put five full stacks into one. Here's my take:
    1. Allow any item to stack with others. Leave it up to the individual to decide what makes sense to combine.
    2. Limit the total number of items in a multislot to the same number as a single stack.
I think that pretty much covers both customization and balance. I for one would like to keep my weapons and tools in multislots since I have so many now. A lot will change between now and the full release. If you don't like the idea of limited item stacks, remember that multiple game modes are likely (survival vs sandbox) and there are always the configs.

If they're going to limit stack size, they had better start giving us better uses for a lot of this crap. Pretty sure I've maxxed out every shop's inventory in my corner of the galaxy on carved rocks and I still have more than I know what to do with.
