The deceptively large interior space makes this a versatile craft, equippable for exploration, cargo or combat. The Miranda could also be considered a "pocket carrier" as it's large shuttle bay allows it to carry as many as a dozen shuttles or fighters.

Jump-tubes are vertical passage ways that replace the space-eating ramps that I had been using. Being more directly vertical, they also more closely resemble the design of the turbo-lifts that made the designs of the original star-trek craft even plausibly functional.
Did you ever notice the two dark recesses on the Dorsal hull of a Miranda-class starship? Although we never really got to the the Miranda in regular service, I always imagined that those looked like docking ports for large equipment rigs. Heck you could stick anything up there to expand the versatility of the vessel. I imagined a fuel pod and a sensor array for deep-range exploration. I imagined external shuttle pads for intensive search and rescue operations. External weapons pods, starship parts delivery, self-contained habitats for outposts or colonies. The possibilities seemed endless. The only thing in the way was that strange "roll-bar". But perhaps that was only an optional feature added after-market to a standard model ship?

These musings led me to create my fifth-version of the TOS Miranda. This one had no roll-bar, but it DID have docking fields on each side big enough for all sorts of possibilities.

    • Full 1:1 scale based on the diagrams and schematics from the original designers.
    • Powered, armed, shielded and ready to fly.
    • Interior spaces have decks and hallways. Most rooms are left for you to define
    • Detailed modeling of the bridge, main engineering and shuttle bay.
    • The shuttle bay has two working bay doors, which can be opened via docking beam.
    • Unfinished basement. Plenty of room in the "shoulders" of the ship for rooms, shields, or armaments
    • Ship comes with 2 versions of TOS shuttles.
    • Tuned weapons arrays give this Miranda much sharper teeth than her predecessors.
    • 12 turrets provide off-axis defensive capability
    • Bunkered ship-core for more staying power in a fight
    • 2 oversized docking ports on the ships upper deck serve weapons or utility platforms.
    • Jump tubes allow easy movement between decks.
