Scavengers are believed to be the result of a beginner's fighter kit and a damaged escape pod. There is no evidence to support the theory as of yet.
Seemingly intended for non-combat roles the Scavenger is a mishmash of components held together with tape, chewing gum and pure will. Laughably inexpensive the pilots who use this vessel as a serious fighter are seriously in need of a CAT scan. It can defend itself long enough to run and in larger numbers could defend an installation. A wing of scavs might be considered a light patrol and a threat but is usually deployed for prospecting salvage and minerals. An externally mounted plexstorage unit allows extended excursions for miners and cargo space for traders while giving space for loot to anyone boneheaded enough to use a scav to fight with.
It's small, it's cheap, it's just missing the Volkswagen logo..
