In the beginnings of the Ultima's exodus from their besieged planet, they needed a small yet durable ship to take as many people as possible into space. For this, large numbers of exploration frigates were hastily converted into warships, allowing a large portion of the surviving population to escape into space. Due to their long range, they were able to search for new resource points and habitable planets, planting the seeds for the Ultima's rebirth.
Over a century later, this frigate is still in use as the Orthos-class frigate. Fitted with cannons and additional armor, the Orthos has become a mainstay of the Ultima fleet, offering inexpensive fire support to assist larger ships. Forgoing missile launchers, the Orthos is instead equipped with a twin-barreled CExp cannon. The Orthos is also equipped with fully efficient Punch-through and Piercing systems, giving it additional longevity in combat, as well as 8 top-mounted AMS turrets. Being built off an exploration vessel, the Orthos is also capable of planetary landing, and is equipped with a Stop module to aid in atmospheric escape. Though aged, many captains, young and old, have fond memories of the Orthos as their first vessel.
