M67A1E3 Linebacker Class Corvette

    M67A1E3 Linebacker Class Corvette 2016-01-20

The Linebacker is an old design that originated during the winter of 2014-2015. A spinnoff design was created for the old EE server before it was upgraded and reset (and then shut down) to be used as a pirate. It was eventually decommissioned as it was small enough to spawn in groups but still packed a 5 million alphastrike punch in a 3.5k mass hull. Somehow. >_>

In the late spring/early summer of 2015 it received rail turrets and a makeover to the hull by adding sensor bits and other subtle features.

The Linebacker is actually the first ship I finished, with the total length of time for the first project taking a little over 3 weeks.
It is also my design with the most variants of it and been rebuilt the most.
Despite this, several refits of the design are currently sitting on the shelf gathering dust as I have had low motivation to actually finish projects as of late.

The design of the ship itself wouldn't of been made possible if not for Criss 's Sisters of Eve Astro Frigate, as I loved the top hull of that thing and invoked images of the Star Wars craft, "Sundered Heart", which you might be able to see that I stylistically built towards, drawing in elements from the designs but ultimately wanting to make it into my own interpretation and not some copy.

This image album depicts the first steps taken as I shaped the craft from the original mold.

I definitely found the interior lacking, but the hanger bay charming.
I decided that I wanted to be able to fit a docking point for a shuttle and personal transport inside of the craft, which back in those days meant that I needed to have a 7x7x7 cube of empty space, minimum.

This image album shows the craft after many attempts at how to do the engines. I was semi-satisfied with those and took pictures of the exterior before I headed inwards to build the interior.
The major point of conflict was how to get the engines to meld to the aft of the bridge, where it suddenly needed to expand to fit the much larger size of the engines. I resorted to my default method of building: Place blocks. Place blocks until you have something, then tear it down. Place blocks again a bit differently, tear part of it down again. Place and remove blocks until the shape is finally tempered out of frustration and weariness, and you will have achieved perfection. And lost any will to continue on.
Eventually the design needed to be changed as I was still unhappy with how the engines looked and also adding the two massive sponsons to the sides and shaping them as engines for system room was not enough. More volume was required. Lots of it.

I tore apart the perfectly good engines that I made, and tried my hand at it again. I also finalized the interior and brought it onto EE where I conversed with the locals as they checked out my humble abode atop an ice planet.
Apparently because most of the interior is made of layered rooms and tightly wound hallways, I did not bother to take pictures of it. A shame.
Fortunately, the interior has remained 90% the same throughout its time and refits, so downloading the ship today will give you the same experience that I did 11 months ago.

    The dreaded pirate version:
It was my first time experimenting with systems, and through a matter of dumb luck and encouragement by Nuclear Doughnut, I accidentled a 3.7k mass ship that spat out 5 million alpha-strike damage in the form of 32 side launched missile beams with explosive and ion effect, 8 outputs of overdrive nukes (usually target was dead before they came into play, 5 million number does not factor in these), 2 outputs of Siege Ion cannons, and 7 turrets of varying uses. It was lighter than the vast majority of the other pirates, Nauvran 's savager themed ships being the only ones on the list lighter than it. When it spawned it usually attacked in groups, and would eventually be removed because something spawning in and immediately sneezing that amount of damage on you before have finished selecting it in the nav (often times before you know it even spawned in) was slightly unfair and missiles back then were pretty powerful. In combination with the core drilling nature of the game, quite a few people lost substantial ships to tiny pirates that gave little, and they were phased out with the ushering in of the new server.

Eventually I updated it to the rail system a few months after the rails came out. A few times after that I went over it with a detaling brush, and this is what we have as the final product, the M67A1E3 model.

    Not likely!
These photos are around 3 months old... >_>
    Oh dear :(

Okay the last one is with my other hulls in general, not other peoples.

EE was the first server I started playing on. That was after the reset and the LInebacker was the biggest and strongest pirate. I can still get flashbacks and nightmares from my first encounters with this ship!
It was also the ship that encouraged me to get better at building effective ships that still looked good. It ended up with a cruiser that I used mostly to farm pirates on EE, but when 2 linebackers showed up, I was in trouble.
Such a lovely (and durable!) ship, though not one to just "spawn in and go" in a pinch as I found out a short while ago, couldnt get the pew pews to go bang immediately so I just used it as a ram.
    Still gud.

I remember this from EE. I liked it so much I had to go through all the trouble of surgically coring one (yea, we could do that back then) to repair it and bring it home. It was the first ever pirate ship that made me respect it. So glad to see the original, updated and ready to fly once again.
