This is a quick and dirty proof of concept for something that I sincerely hope will never be included in the game (at the very least, not on board ships): a logic-operated scanner, not dissimilar to a chaindrive or the logic-operated jump inhibitor exploit I've posted.
Only one scanner module is docked to show how they'd be assembled. The button restarts the clock, inner ship remote turns the system on, and indicator lights show when each scanner would receive a firing signal.
Mass (assuming full payload of scanner modules): 14.24
Dimensions (minus superfluous controls and indicator lights): 24*3*3m
Power is fully self-sufficient; this design would be docked into a larger ship.
When operational, theoretically scans once every 5 seconds.
Pics not provided because this isn't usable (nor should it ever be), and exists to prove a point.
