A little over a year ago I created a salvager for survival with the intention to also make it nimble, fast to get around with, cheap and reasonably tough to kill, while still maintaining a pretty face.
This is the updated version for that ship, completely built from scratch. The original has never been available for download but can be seen on my shipyard thread.
The main salvage array on this mad dog consist of a double cross pattern of 100% cannon slaved salvage arrays. The area it covers is 29 by 29 and each salvage array is 30 blocks long. It should cover all your salvaging needs from asteroids to planetary (ahem) in the mid and late game.
To make sure you can zip around, it features a 1.5:1 thrust to mass ratio and 30k jumpdrive modules.
For defenses we have 640k shields with 12k recharge (if you get in trouble, flee with your fast jumpdrive, you shouldn't need your shield for long), 6 anti missile turrets and 2 full-stop effect continuous beam turrets. All this should ensure you can escape any encounter with pirates or unfriendly players unscathed.
To still keep costs reasonable, even with all of those systems installed, most of the outer hull is made of basic hull with a few exceptions for aesthetic purposes.
