    Blackbird A1 2014-07-24

The original Blackbird-class corvette was built as a technology demonstrator for the latest improvements in weapon and defense designs. As such, it featured beam-based weapons and the new locking missiles, as well as 4 missile turrets.
The original design was successful, and went through a couple re-fits, but now that things settled down a little, it is time for the Blackbird to make her debut to the community.

The Blackbird-class features cutting edge weapon technology, designed for hit-and-run attacks. It features 4 target-chasing missile batteries firing multiple lock-on missiles for long range attacks, complimented by 4 heavy torpedo tubes for closer range engagements. While the missiles are reloading and re-arming, the Blackbird relies on her 8 powerful lasers that have been enhanced even more with an overdrive system. 4 lock-on Artemis missile-beam turrets provide 100% coverage around the ship, very effectively picking off enemy fighters that would somehow be able to keep up with, or outmaneuver the ship.
Designed for fast patrols and hit-and-run tactics, the Blackbird-class has very good thrust compared to her size, and the engines can be easily sent into overdrive, doubling the top speed of the vessel.
The ship has adequate shielding for its size, which can be ionized with a secondary system, hugely reinforcing shield efficiency. To aid sneaking up on enemies, a jamming system has been installed. The ship's power grid is efficient enough to support both defensive systems the same time, or one of them with Overdrive.
Due to high automation, the ship itself is equipped with an AI that can take control of all systems if desired. The airlocks are automated, preventing accidental venting of atmosphere. The ship therefore only requires a crew of 7, for whom adequate quarters are provided.

Crew quarters - quite spartan, but this is a warship, not a luxury cruise.
