Apr2015 Challenge Builds: Single Dock Week 2.0

    The Download:

The zip file above contains 7 sment files, each one corresponding to one of the ships produced for Warsong's April 2015 Build Challenge.

Individual vessels may be given their own separate download if there is sufficient demand, but for now they're only available via this bundle.

Challenge Theme: Single Dock Week: Make various craft that fit in a single docking module's 7x7x7 bounding box.

    The Ships:

Pictured: The seven ships in the zip file, ordered from left to right in two rows

    1. Scatterstream-class Point Defense System
    Classification: Autocannon Turret (Anti-missile)
Challenge: "Wed 1st: PDT (Anti missile turret or Point Defense Turret)
    - I know a lot of folks have something similar already but try to shrink it down to a single dock and make it look as nice and distinct as possible!"
The Scatterstream-class PDS is named for the signature weapons fire pattern produced by its twin-linked barrels: A stream of magnetically-contained antimatter bursts with a regular sputtering that sprays additional rounds in a wide scattered wave. It uses 2 weapons combos to achieve this effect: cannon/cannon for the stream, and cannon/missile for the scatter. Tests have found this pattern to be fairly capable at taking out enemy missiles.

Defensively, the turret possesses both standard-grade combat armor and an energy shield, allowing it to survive against small craft such as light fighter drones.

Additional systems include thrusters to permit the turret to easily maneuver for docking or act as an independent drone, and a camera to permit high visibility for easy docking as well as manual override if necessary. For RP, the turret also includes a communications antenna and heat radiators on its sides.

    2. Magnetar Industries' Space Truck Type-CS
Classification: Civilian Light Salvager (Cherry Picker)
Challenge: "Thurs 2nd: Cherry Picker. (Salvager meant to collect specific resources)
    - It just needs a few beams and a highly suggested 100% refire rate (use cannons as slave) to gather small clusters of resources while leaving the asteroid mostly intact.
    "
Developed by Magnetar Industries as a salvage-oriented variant of their Space Truck Type-C, The Type-CS sports a powerful high-precision salvage beam system that allows it to collect any ore the driver requires. The 1:1 ratio cannon slave allows the beam to fire continuously for as long as needed, and the vehicle's power train reliably provides sufficient power to maintain the beam. Inside, the vehicle contains four easy-to-access storage chests in which the system stores the goods.

Additional systems include the Type-C's common rear docking module for towing and high TWR for maneuvering and transit. By only using 5 salvage modules for the beam, this truck can easily be utilized by a fresh newbie. To differentiate it from the standard Type-C and match the roof-mounted salvager, this vessel's cab was painted green.

    3. Ionstream-class Fighter Drone
    Classification: Unmanned Combat Vehicle (Skirmisher)
Challenge: "Fri 3rd: Pretty Pretty Drone. (Regardless of stats if has to look good and have functional weapons and shielding)
    - This one is tough. Making anything that small look good is a tough sell. Good luck!
    "
Based on the aesthetics of the Scatterstream-class Point Defense System, the Ionstream was constructed to mobilize the hull and utilize it as a skirmish drone in small-scale conflicts. Replacing the sputtering antimatter cannons are twin-linked guns that rapidly fire ionized charged particle bursts at the target, with the intent to bring and keep down its energy shields while a larger craft targets key locations on the hull to strike.

Its own shield generators are smaller than those on its parent design, but this was done to make room for the larger (6 cannon/6 cannon/6 ion) weapons system. The side radiators were moved to the bottom to allow for armor to be placed on the side, and the radiators themselves were upgraded to be sturdier against weapons fire. The higher thrust, additional armor, and maneuverability as an independent ship were estimated to make up for the reduced energy shielding.

    4. Type-1 Cargo Container

    Classification: Freight Container (Light)
Challenge: "Sat 4th: Cargo Drop Pod. (Well made and useful cargo container that can be left in space for pickup)
    - Couldn't be simpler. An attractive-ish functional cargo pod with enough plex storage on board to hold the requested amount of any one block type and just enough power and shields to survive a stray cannon bolt. Because accidents happen.
    "
The Type-1 Cargo Container was a practical answer to the need for a small yet heavily shielded freight container. With 15 Plex Storage Modules in cross formations on the rear and side walls, this box can carry a great deal of cargo. Plentiful lighting and the yellow and black color scheme make this craft easy to see for transports to pick up, while the well-lit interior allows loaders to have no difficulty with moving its contents.

A docking module on the top of the container means they can be stacked one atop another for hauling. While this cargo container will fit on the rear dock of a Type-C Space Truck, it is advised that any drivers towing one or more of these should avoid all gravitational hazards, including planets and black holes, as the container's mass will greatly affect the truck's acceleration.

    5. X-1 Recon Probe
    Classification: Stealth Reconnaissance Probe (Cloaked)
Challenge: "Sun 5th: Cloaking Manned Probe. (Recon probe which must cloak for at least 15 seconds)
    - Now we get to a tough one. Meant to be unmanned; since it's not possible just yet let's go with manned. It needs to be able to stay hidden from the moment it enters cannon range to egress. Get close, cloak, take a look around, then get the heck out of dodge."
The strange design of this probe came from an attempt to build a miniature solar sailor probe. However, the small reactors of the vessel made the addition of hull an impossibility for the design. As such, the reactors were placed as such to imply the shape of the desired vessel without needing any filler blocks.

The probe can stay cloaked and jammed for a good amount of time, even with thrust, but the power reserves do slowly drain while both modules are active. If an additional reactor block is appended to the rear of each of the 5 reactor groups, the probe becomes permanently stealth-capable, but requires a docking enhancer to fit its new length of 8.

    6. Type-1 Auxiliary Reactor

    Classification: Supplementary Power Reactor (Small)
Challenge: "Mon 6th: Docked Reactor. (Greatest efficiency with bonuses for aesthetics and turret docks)
    - This isn't a big deal. But making it look good would be pretty sweet. The additional turret docks can have a lot of uses. But we'll worry about that later. Just keep in mind anything you add now might be useful - or it might be counter productive."
The first-logic-driven automatic power generator built by Magnetar Industries, this thing packs big power in a small space. The Power Supply Beam's 100% cannon slave makes the system continuous, ensuring a near-constant source of energy for whatever the reactor is docked to. A logic clock hooked up to an AND signal toggled by activators regulates the beam's emission, giving the crew the ability to turn it on or off at any time.

The turret docks on the sides increase the versatility of the reactor, once the R&D engineers figure out what possible uses to have for them.

    7. Hwacha-class Guided Missile Turret
    Classification: Guided Missile Turret (Anti-fighter)
Challenge: "Tues 7th: Anti-fighter Missile Turret. (Best stats within a limited space with good aesthetics)
    - A good way to do this one is just recycle your PDT with new weapons. You might want to make it slightly bigger than your PDT. It's up to you. The fun is in trying to make it launch more missiles than most PDTs can deal with. MUAHAHAHA."
Named after an ancient multiple launch rocket system invented by the Terran faction Korea in Earth Year 1409, this turret unleashes a swarm of heat-seeking and laser-guided missiles to overwhelm enemy point defense and destroy opposing starfighters. While armor can give the heat seeking missiles some trouble, their blast shockwaves can still penetrate and damage systems underneath the protective hull. The true destructive potential comes from the twin laser-guided missiles, each capable of delivering 1350 damage to the target.

Based on the design of the Scatterstream, this turret utilizes both standard-grade combat armor and energy shields for defense. It can also be used as a standalone combat drone if necessary.
