    It's heartbreaking.

For a game that I have played and enjoyed for so long, this is heartbreaking.

The new power update has been released for more than a month now. Despite the opposition and the suggestions to better improve it, Schine ignored us. Instead, they argued. They argued why Power 2.0 was better, and refused to take a majority of the community's advice. And now, the game will suffer...

There are many of us that have been here since the player boost from the Yogscast in 2013, and even past that as well. It has been nearly five years that I have stayed with this game and community. Even though the game has been in alpha for so long, I had hope that this would keep going...

    ...until now.

The veterans, including myself, now have other interests in similar games like StarMade and are moving on. It saddens me. A loyal playerbase after a long time is leaving a game that had so much potential.

    It's heartbreaking.

Schine, you have failed us. There is an opportunity for a second chance, however I doubt that you will aim to rebuild what has been undone. Until then, I shall take my leave.

    Farewell, StarMade.

ObiShawnKenobi, I would like to ask what about the new power you think is killing the game. Since the return of the forums and the addition of the stability bonus, I have seen some extremely polar differences in the reactions to the new system.

Most of the current complaints are about integrity and how it limits building, to which my only response is a gesture toward the devs, many of whom, on at least one platform, have expressed that the integrity system WILL be changing as the game progresses. On this very day, Sunday, February 11th, 2018, the devs are going to be in a meeting, with one of the major points of discussion being the new integrity system (if you don't believe me, Saber confirmed it in the official Starmade stream on Twitch yesterday).

Whatever your concerns are, voice them and the rest of the community will likely respond with agreement or an explanation of why the concern is a misconception. There are several long threads in this section of the forum that show support and hope for the future of the game, so something is going right. It may just take time to see that.

He voiced his concerns before the forums were shut down. A lot of people did. In the end it boils down to a divide between Schine who believes the systems works, as well as those who did find themselves liking the system, and on the side who hate certain features of it.

Conversations have been going since it was announced months and and continued through the dev phase. In the end, Schine pushed the update out without addressing or commenting on the concerned raised.

Don't forget to look up what an alpha is on the way out.
Nine times out of Ten, a game knows what it wants to be before they try to charge people. This isnt Alpha development, we've reverted to Pre-alpha, where no one even knows what the game is going to be anymore.

So you leave because the power update killed it for you.

And what do the simmilar games do better in regards of pvp-meta? For me Space Engineers, Empyrion and Skywanders all don't have that much deeper pvp combat. Just tell me at what specific part the other games do their ship-to-ship pvp better, if you disagree with me.

I think many of the currently upset people will come back.

    Enjoy your pause. ;)

You might consider a more moderate approach. Move on to other things for a year (or two or three). You don't have to be in on a games bleeding edge development or its release to enjoy it. I just started playing Mad Max, last year, (during a Steam sale, of course) and it's been a blast, despite the game being "old news" at this point.

It's a good thing Schine hasn't tried to charge anyone yet.

    This isnt Alpha development,
To quote Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Last time I checked, StarMade was still a multiplayer Sci-fi, voxel, sandbox game.

This is so gloriously off the mark and borderline irrelevant to what I said I simply must hang it from my wall.

Him being wrong doesn't make you right. Schine has never gone out of their way to ask for money, games in alpha change drastically ALL the damn time, and to say that the Devs aren't listening to us regarding power 2.0 is to willfully ignore every patch and change they've implemented in the last two months.

Games changing drastically is normal yes. However to revamp an already revamped system, and then removed features because the revamp was only half done so now we have less features than when we started until they get around to finishing the revamp. If the system itself wasnt basically a side-grade I wouldnt mind the reduction of features, as it is something new with new mechanics. This is just the same system done slightly different but they decided to remove some effects because of oversight and long standing bugs. Alpha or not, it does not paint a very good picture of Schine.

Another thing to note is some of these updates and changes could have been made during the Dev build. They've gotten more or less the exact same feedback since going public, just a slightly bigger scale. I'm not going to applaud them when all they did was listen to someone slightly different.

You don't have to applaud them, or even like them, or like Starmade. What you DO have to do is stop using facile, or completely baseless arguments that anybody half-awake can refute to support doom and gloom predilections.

I haven't touched the game in a long time, and judging from the community's state since I last saw, I don't know if I will be able to. I loved playing this game, talking to the community, and seeing how the game would grow. Ever since the drama began, I honestly don't know what to say. I really wish I could come back to the game, and talk to all the community who I used to talk to.

Seeing everyone else leave, really sucks. Looking at what the game has come to, really sucks. I haven't touched the fourms, the chat, or the game in over six months, but I've stuck with the game, and I've kept up with it's development since 2014. If all this really is true, then it's sad to see everyone leaving.

    Goodbye Starmade.

"its alpha XDDD" stopped being an excuse to justify every problem this game has years ago if it ever was an excuse in the first place.

You cannot defend StarMade when you compare it to other alpha voxel games who have created a more feature complete game with more optimisation with smaller development teams in less time then StarMade.

Well for a start you'd better try it before saying goodbye because other are leaving (so they say but they are still here raging).

You actually don't know if you'll like the game as is or not.

I'm gonna jump off a bridge, its fun. You comming ?

Another game you might enjoy is Interstellar Rift. It's more limited than Starmade but still fun.

Come back and check out Starmade again sometime.

Don't go so quick! :) - at least not if you have an interest in the building-fundamentals:

I was highly skeptical about original iterations of 2.0, and actually enjoyed 1.0 XYZ power-threading... Much of the (justified) criticism of the original 2.0 power system is now moot (IMO)- the multi-dimensional stabilizer system works well (not previous 2.0 stabalizer iteration, that was indeed terrible).

Other 2.0 systems and mechanics retain equal interest and challenges to 1.0 > integrity and shields might need some more work (and weapons) . Importantly: The pretty-builds and the power-builds both seem functional within their respective class and relative to the degree of their respective min-maxing (as far as i can see from brief testing anyway). THIS IS A SUCCESS ! :) , based on the Goals of the original 2.0 Dev Team.

Looking forward, much hinges (i would say) on things such as evolved fleet/ai and collision/damage-propagation as base systems.
Game-interest and universe content such as trading, factories etc seem 'bolt-on' in various possible iterations - content which I would be interested to see :)

[Ignore the forum toxicity, if you still have an interest in the fundamental game : i have never seen such buckets of non-sense as have been tossed around all over the place. Valid and useful points of view were obscured everywhere. 'Nuff said I'd say - lets move on. ]

based on the Goals of the original 2.0 Dev Team.
To this day, I do not comprehend or understand that those goals are. The more it heys patched, the more it likens to the previous version of power, except with less blocks. And while using less blocks sounds great, it's actually hurting the game because there is no value to that empty space.

Well for a start you'd better try it before saying goodbye because other are leaving (so they say but they are still here raging).

You actually don't know if you'll like the game as is or not.
Starmade is a multiplayer game, you can't blame a person for not wanting to play if all the people they liked leave. The salt in the wound of all this is with the community thinning, there's less of a reason to stay. When it comes to multiplayer games, the community is as important as the game.

SM's singleplayer has always been in a sad state, and a lot of what kept the game afloat was the community and servers. With the system changes and lack of update to the npc ships (I dont even need to boot the game to know they didnt update them), SP has gone from bad to worse, and the MP scene seems to have also taken a hearty blow.

The 2.0 changes are to address fundamental issues underlying 'everything', Many fundamental structures underlying game-calculation result in highly detrimental lag (or other varieties of weirdness) - This is particularly ruinous to enjoyable Multiplayer/Server play, whatever the state of the community.

Small things such as Efficient-Calculations-Of-Many-Kinds, especially during heavy combat;things like AI decision-trees, with individual ships, and how a group might react to damage (for example) - but also how NPC behavior scales on a strategic level. Let alone the basic grinding-lag that we all know and love about online-SM :)

Using less blocks per se was not (as I understand it) the goal of 2.0 at all.
