Wings and Squadrons

Call them what you like Flight Wings, Squadrons, Flight groups.
Allow the grouping of several ships in a fleet and assign them one task while assigning other ships another task in the same fleet.

In the fleet pull menu. Create a column where they can be assigned a group.
Then create a second column in which tasks can be assigned.
Guard this location
Patrol Sector
Guard <target> for stationary
Guard current location
Escort <target> for moving ships.
Attack <target>

This would be handy for assigning a protective fleet for your miners(nothing worse then your miners tying to attack the pirates with your fighter squadron,what a mess!)

It's stupidly simple, and we really do need this functionality. The simple ability to make sub-fleets. Fleets within fleets. Specific group orders supersede whole-fleet orders. Then, eventually, we could get a tactical control (Perhaps in an RTS style) capability, perhaps also tied to holographic blocks (But perhaps not for lag/connection reasons) that allows you to target specific vessels and give specific flight orders/paths.

But really, to begin, all we need is sub-groups in fleets, so your sniper vessels and vulnerable carriers can be told to hang back a sector or so, while the brawling vessels close to point-blank.

I think we should be free to create as much subgroups as possible with the name of the type of the group.

Splitting fleets into squadrons would be a great feature for mining fleets, being able to separate miners from patrol escorts etc, or recalling mining drones but not defense drones.
