What's a good size for a first ship?

I'm working on a proper ship now that I have some cash - My original was a core, a power device, an engine, and a salvage cannon. Not very good. However, I'm having trouble with the sizing, and what to put in it, so, well, yea.

hmm, for a first ship a frigate* sized ship isn\'t too bad. it gives you roughly enough space for everything you need and your still fast enough to navigate easily and maybe even kite enemies.

if you don\'t want to rebuild your ship almost all the time you\'ll want at least SOME shielding, and some guns, and if you can afford it smart missiles that can lock onto a target. the SD-BB\'s i believe.
