Sometimes I tried to make an everlasting (vs Isanth-VI) shield.
I disabled docking checks and docked ships above each other. Each 1 block was another ship with 2000 shield (about 6 blocks and 1 power)
The problems were that
Personally, I hate that shields last a lot less than 10 seconds vs same amounts of AMC blocks which are also efficient AFTER the shield is down.

The problems were that
- I couldn't shoot through them, thus had to build AMC pipes around my docks :D
- They had not enough capacity to overcome sudden damage-spikes from more then one in a combat statistic.
