I was flying around and found a space station and needed some money (I had just spawned).
So, I got out of my ship and was merrily dismantling the space station when I noticed a group of ships flying in my direction. At first I thought they were some sort of police force (they weren't red like pirates) that were going to punish me for destroying the station but they just floated into my area, lingered a bit, then left.
While they were lingering I thought to get on board one and perhaps steal their ship, but they stayed away. I then went to get back into my own ship but they buggered off before I could catch up to them (got within a couple hundred meters, though).
I haven't seen any mention of random non-pirate ships so I am guessing they were pirates but didn't aggro on me because I wasn't in my spacecraft. I thought this may be a bug so I am reporting it.
