    StarMade Ship Classifications

Note: Made with help from "ZarxVI".

    Military

    Light Military Attack Craft:

    Fighter: 0.3 – 50 mass

Description: Used as agile light attack craft, fighters are generally deployed from carriers and used to harass and take down the shields of larger craft.

    Bomber: 0.5 – 50 mass

Description: A specialized class of fighter, bombers move in after the shields of a capital ship are downed to destroy the hull and vital components.

    Corvette: 50.1 – 125 mass

Description: The largest of the light military attack craft, they are designed to provide heavier harassment and support for larger ships in combat while maintaining high agility and shielding.

    Medium Military Attack Craft:

    Frigate: 125.1 – 250 mass

Description: The workhorse of the any space-faring armada, the frigate deals the damage and tanks the shots. A perfect balance between shielding, firepower, agility, and maneuverability.

    Destroyer: 150 – 300 mass

Description: Like the frigate, the destroyer is one of the most common found ship types in a fleet. Capable of being modified to suit almost any role in combat, destroyers can used to fulfill any niche in a fleet. Typically heavier than frigates.

    Cruiser: 250.1 – 450 mass

Description: The heaviest of all medium attack craft, the cruiser can tank shots from most ships and is suitable for ship-to-ship combat.

    Large Military Attack Craft:

    Battle-Cruiser: 450.1 – 1500 mass

Description: The flagships of most fleets, it is able to combat virtually every ship it meets, provided that the mass of the opposing ship is of equal or less mass.

    Battleship: 1500.1 - 4000 mass

Description: Often the largest ship class in any given combat situation, the battleship is a large investment by the people who make it, and is nearly unbeatable on the battlefield.

    Dreadnaught: 4000.1 – 10000 mass

Description: A terror to behold by any opponent who sees it, the dreadnaught instills pride and confidence in the side that owns it, but terror and fear in its opponents. Having a dreadnaught virtually guarantees victory. The fleet in control of this monstrosity will live to its name: they will dread not.

    Insanity:

    Titan: 50000 – 100000 mass

Description: Brought in as a last resort, it can singlehandedly destroy a fleet of dreadnaughts.

    Colossus: 100000.1 - 1000000000 mass (size of a sector)

Description: Your opponent shall die. The end.

    Specialty ships:

    Troop Transport: 25 – 100 mass

Description: It transports troops. Nuff’ said.

    Carrier: 1000 - ? mass

Description: Capable of holding at least 12 fighters, these large ships are equipped with many turrets and are nothing more than a giant flying heavily defended fighter deployment platform.

    Sub-Classes:

    Fighter:

Interceptor – Class: Sacrificing any type of shielding for extra agility, these speedy craft excel in fighter-to-fighter combat, but are cannon fodder for anything else.

Praesidium – Class: This type of fighter sacrifices the extra agility of the Interceptor – Class fighters for extra shielding units and firepower. It can also be used for long range recon, as it is still quite fast, and is also more heavily armed and defended.

    Corvette:

Mobilitas – Class: A light corvette focused more on speed and maneuverability rather than shielding and weapon systems. It fights alongside fighters in a more picket style attack force. Great for harassment and ambushes.

Impetus – Class: A heavy corvette focused on shielding and weapon systems whilst sacrificing some speed and maneuverability.

    Frigate:

Permetior – Class: A heavily shielded and densely made frigate, the Permetior - Class is meant for transport and tanking shots.

Aggressor – Class: A frigate made solely for combat, it sacrifices everything for sheer and overwhelming firepower. As such, it must be defended by the Permetior – Class and smaller corvettes and fighters.

Spiritus – Class: A frigate that strikes a delicate balance between speed, shielding, and weaponry, it is suitable for individual ship-to-ship combat. This is one of the most commonly found vessels in a fleet. A truly versatile, all-purpose vessel.

    Destroyer:

Escort – Class: A destroyer modified for escort, it supports and defends capital ships while in combat. As such, it has advanced shielding and weaponry at the sacrifice of acceleration speed.

Imperator – Class: The mainstay warship of most space fleets. A destroyer balanced for combat, but still more focused on weaponry.

Inventum – Class: A heavily modified destroyer with powerful engines and shielding systems. Designed to explore star systems, or do long range reconnaissance independent of the main fleet.

    Cruiser:

Provocator – Class: The heavier mainstay option for richer factions, the Provocator – Class deals far more damage than the Imperator – Class Destroyer, with improved shielding and engine systems. The Provocator – Class does cost far more, however, in both time and resources.

Assertor – Class: Built by those who are afraid of losing their ships, this class of cruiser has extensive shielding systems, at the loss of the heavy weapons the Provocator – Class enjoys.

    Battle–Cruiser:

Regulus – Class: The flagship of most fleets. This balanced battle-cruiser has many heavy weapons and powerful shields.

    Battleship:

Praetor – Class: Often the largest ship in a combat situation, the Praetor – Class can deal as much firepower as a fleet of Imperator – Class Destroyers, and has more shielding than that of a fleet of Assertor – Class ships.

    Dreadnaught:

Titan – Class: A medium sized dreadnaught, the Titan – Class has enough firepower to destroy even the Praetor – Class ships in combat. It is the flagship of only the most rich and powerful of factions.

Behemoth – Class: A super-sized dreadnaught, the Behemoth – Class is essentially the largest vessel possibly seen in combat. Made to intimidate the enemy, it dwarfs even the Titan – Class. It has enough firepower to blow a sector of enemy ships to kingdom come.

    Civilian:

    Shuttle: 50 – 100 mass

    Description: Hulls around civilians.

    Freighter: 100 – 150 mass

Description: A private owned vessel that can carry multiple people on it. Some militaries have taken up these vessels and modified them for stealth usage.

    Mining Vessel: ? mass

Description: Travels around sectors trying to find abandoned space stations, asteroids, and planetoids to harvest valuables from.

    Mothership: 1000000 - ? mass

Description: More so a space station rather than a spacecraft, it acts as a command center for a faction, or nation. One can comfortably grow a faction from a mothership, or direct a multi-sector war. Dwarfs most planets. Suitable for raising families, but not recommended, as small children have been known to been lost.

    Started a carrier build yesterday...

570m long by 140 height by 114 width, just finished filling in the rear area of 70m length. It\'s now over 100,000 mass.

And I haven\'t even started the front. Or filled in the middle.

    ...Right.

Your descriptions don\'t really fall in line with any real world analogues or established scifi. I give you props for trailblazing, but that makes you system pretty user-unfriendly. Also, putting mass recommendations in there makes absolutely no sense, as some people just build their fleets on a different scale than others.

Try something a bit more concise. http://star-made.org/content/reformed-and-standardized-vessel-classification

Sorry if you guys don\'t like my classifications. I just set a standard that I use. Of course, different people use different scales. So, I guess you could just multiply all the mass recommendations by a set ratio unitl it is up to the scale you use.
