I have to tip my hat to Scine lately. what they have done with the game is amazing. the recent logic additions alone have been well worth the work put into them. I have been experimenting myself quite extensively.
I felt that now was a good time to speak out about a certain thing that I hope the council will hear me out about.
Thruster Plumes. these awesome things have been in the game for a while, but now that they are more vibrant and much more noticeable, they are also somewhat problematic. getting them to look exactly how we want them to, and function without issue has also been somewhat of a problem. right now they show up through blocks even if they are covering up the place where the thrust module emits them from. for internal/decorative placement, this is a problem. I have discovered that if you place blocks at least three blocks thick this negates the affect. but getting the Plumes to show only where and how I want them would be a nice feature.
I would suggest some kind of mechanic which uses a system we already have. the linking system. let us be able to set the intensity of the affects, and not just for the thrust, but for all things affect wise, via Logic. I would propose the ability to link an activation module to said affect source, to set the items intensity level. for example the Thruster Plumes linked to one activation module, that is turned off, would not emit any affect what so ever. however, when turned on, it would then emit the affect at a low level. The affect would then intensify when connected to more activation modules, that are turned on. this would let us control what and where this effect would show via logic.
why would you want to turn the affect off? well if I wanted to decorate my interior with the block that emits this affect, but don't want my ships interior flooded with the flame affects, then this would be a rather handy way to do just that. I haven't tested to see if the old trick of area triggers will still work with the new affects, but if it does that is great. but regardless, a way to do this kind of thing without flooding my ship with useless invisible blocks, which also create issues while in build mode, would also be a nice feature.
