    My suggestions are:

    Oxygen as a commodity, used by ships and space stations at a rate that rises with the amount of people in the ship/station.

    Different gas worlds for use as fuels/power sources. so like a Gas giant can be harvested for Hydrogen, an earth world for Oxygen, use both in a Hydrogen fuel cell, creating electricity and water.

    Batteries for ship power and weapons, an alternative to the infinite resource power we currently have.More charge, not infinite.

    Warp portal tech. seriously, connecting distant regions is a pain in the ass. what would be awesome is to be able to invade an enemy factions area, sneak in a warp gate and warp your fleet in

    Instead of catalogues, Connect a factory to a constructed shipyard. so you have to supply the components yourself, instead of being able to buy all the items a shop is lacking through the catalogue and selling them.

    Solid laser weapons, like the mining laser only damaging, used for breaching shields. (and for making a deathstar! WOO)

    Different engines with weight class limitations. so for fighters, a fast engine with a higher acceleration. for massive cruisers, slow accelerating engines with a higher top speed.

    BOBBY-AI that auto-activates when you leave the core block

    ACTUAL PLANETS i like the disk worlds but actual worlds with cores would be awesome.

    ACTUAL STARS. a solid object you can mine, destroy and darken an entire system. could be linked to the recharge of the standard infinite power system. so lose your local star, lose the recharge rate, making it an effective defence from faction attack, to destroy your sun and use they hydrogen engines instead. Pirate (NON AI) could destroy a star to disrupt a shipping line and pillage the ships that get trapped in the star-less system with no alternative power source.

    long range, stationary defence systems that MUST be planet based. used to defend space stations, promotes building in systems with stars (See above for Pro's and Cons of having a star system)

    Liscences for ships in certain sizes. so you start off with a license for say... anything 40x40x40 from a core block. 200k for something 100x100x100. 5m for unlimited build size, including space stations. just as a way to reduce how much money people have, because its so easy to get right now.

    Astronaut based firearms, so you can blow a hole in a capital ship and assault it from the inside. Does nothing against Hull but enables groups of people to assault enemy ships and disable its defences from the inside, by disabling gravity, weapons systems and shielding, that kinda deal

    Cont from above) This would work in conjunction with BOBBY AI taking over when you exit the core block. Having bobby have an "Evasion and loop" option so when it takes over, it circles and attempts to avoid fire while you try capture an enemy vessel.

    EMP explosives. ever the double edged sword, every blast drains power and temporarily slows recharge rate from EVERYTHING in the vacinity.
