I was attempting to use a Pull Module to create a little train of ships as well as a little salvager that attached to an asteroid, but I've found that the pull module won't move you towards a target. I was thinking a type of ship grapple that used a decent amount of power based on the mass would be good.

    Any other ideas?

Logic-controlled tractor beam system that runs two beams: pull beam out the front and push beam against the host ship. Hopeful result: the target directly in front of the host ship moves toward the ship, while the push system moves the ship forward towards the target.

As for a spontaneous ship-train system: I think you are going to have to wait for magnet/universal docking blocks. You could simulate it with rails and dockers floating in space. (rails in the front, dockers in the rear; otherwise, dockers in the front, rails in the rear, just as long as they are consistent between "rail cars".)
