This is the old thread. Disregard. New thread coming... eventually.
We are the Thryn
We are the Thryn
We are here for two reasons: To have fun, and to win. We are primarily an engineering faction. We build for the sake of beautiful, beautiful destruction - and beautiful destruction must come from an equally beautiful ship. We work together to build and to break, all for the sake of fun and victory. Upon death, we are not punished, but rewarded for our valiant efforts in combat. Personal ships are permitted, provided we know what they can do well, and can identify how to use them effectively in a fleet.

The Faction Rules
Our rules are here to protect us and to protect your hard work. They allow us to function well as a faction, and they allow us to maintain our happiness.
There are four simple main categories to our rules (subject to adjustments over time)
Point One:
Real Life Always Comes First
You have a job. You have school. You have friends. You have loved ones. Emergencies happen. If something happens on your end, we'll be waiting for your return. If you need to take temporary leave of the faction due to real life, then we'll understand - though announcing it is very much preferable.
Point Two:
All Members Are Held To The Same Standards
If our officers aren't following these points, then that's a problem. We will have no internal hypocrisy. That said, if the officers are being held to high standards, then it follows that lower ranking members are as well. Offenses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by management unless the faction grows to sufficient size that they become a regular problem.
Point Three:
Proper Conduct
We're trying to run a clean ship, here.
- Do not initiate arguments. Only respond if sufficiently provoked. Ongoing conflicts may require officer intervention, and I don't want to deal with that shit.
- Do not continue arguments that are already over. If the other party walks away, so can you. None of that "And another thing!" crap.
- You take the blame if you cause problems. If you're a buttmunch, that's on you, not us. We will not save your ass if you walk into moving traffic and are about to get hit by a bus, if you catch my drift.
- No discrimination on grounds of age, race, religion (within reason - zealotry is not permitted for obvious reasons), sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc. is permitted. I'll expand the list as necessary.
- If someone talks about personal problems in the Thryn chat rooms, do not speak of it outside of those chat rooms. If they wanted it going outside their circle of friends, then they would do it themselves.
"But I was joking!" isn't a defense if we have to take action. If you're about to make a potentially offensive joke, think about it for a moment and ask yourself if there's any possible way you're about to piss off the entire faction. We've had to remove people for this in the past. - Do not directly post porn in the Skype room
seriously, we shouldn't even need this rule, kat.
Point Four:
Communications Requirements
We're trying to keep things simple and clean here. Failure to follow these simple requirements will result in being barred from events, further ranks, or possibly the faction itself.
- Teamspeak 3 is required. You do not have to speak - you simply have to have it installed and be able to get on it when officers request that you do. However, not speaking on Teamspeak at some point will prevent you from advancing in rank.
- You must enter the Teamspeak channel provided when requested that you do so by an officer. This will only be done for official faction events and military action, though, and failure to enter the channel will simply result in not being permitted to take part in that event. Attempting to take part in a military movement without being in Teamspeak after it's been requested will result in you being placed in a "special" role (you probably don't want to be there).
- All officers' orders are to be respected in comms. This is to maintain order and ensure the smooth running of operations. If you have a suggestion to make, PM it to the officer leading your group.
- Clear comms when asked by an officer. Feel free to make comments and smalltalk otherwise, but a request to clear comms will only ever come if the officer is trying to present orders or run a tactical ops event.
- Skype is heavily, HEAVILY recommended. You'd better have a damn good excuse to not have it.
- Check Skype before logging on to our main server. Always. If you don't, and you log in during a combat operation or base siege, and you die, you're losing faction points and risking losing homebase invulnerability.
- If you're online and the base is under attack, post that information in the Skype group. Post in the Skype group when the siege is finished, too, please.

Applying is not a guarantee of acceptance. There is a certain minimum standard of competence and fame that we need. If we've heard of you and we like your personality, your chances of being accepted are drastically increased. If we haven't heard of you, you will need to have examples of your work ready, and we will interview you if you seem sufficiently competent. Invitations to the faction are reviewed by officers. Post them in the main thread. Do not PM officers.
This is not a militaristic faction. This is a group of friends. If we do not think you would fit in, but you are otherwise a good recruit, we may possibly recommend you to other factions.
