This one's plain and simple:

One should be able to hide symmetry planes(make them invisible) in build mode but still have them active if one chooses.

IIRC you can modify the texture for it in the starmade folder in the meantime if this suggestion is never implemented.

Um... Isn't that the same as the shield texture and the warp effect? Sounds like a bad idea.
