Should I update StarMade to the latest developer version?

I have been having issues with the current stable version of starmade (0.1595) such as Salvage cannons only functioning properly when the computer is has a AMC computer as its slave, and shops will not buy terrain (only mineral). I know that shops are fixed in the latest dev version but I am scared to update as I have not played StarMade too much recently and I am unaware as to how I can backup my save file and put it back in. I would like to know if it is safe for me to update to the dev version? Or should I wait and deal with these bugs?

You can backup the game by creating a copy of the entire StarMade directory somewhere else on your disk.
If those issues are game breaking for you, I guess there's no harm done in doing a backup and trying it out. You'll probably see very fast if the game will work for you or not.
