First of all - Developers, I love this game! Keep up the good work!
I am not really experienced with factories and creating hulls and stuff, but there is a feature I'd love to see in this game. A block that you can place in your ship (More blocks in a cube=Better) that produces new ships based from blueprints you load into them. For example you could have your own ship's blueprint loaded into some of them and thereby they'll repair your ship automatically. You could also have some of them creating smaller fighters that will be released during combat.
Of course you'll have to supply them with materials through Plex Storages or Factory Inputs or a new kind of block. It should take some time for them to build, like 10s/block if you have just one of them and decreasing the amount the more blocks placed.
