SGU Destiny - WIP

[FutileSine]

Yesterday night, in a fit of madness I started to work on a scale model of the ship Destiny from the show Stargate:Universe. I don't know when I'll finish, but I plan to put in a few hours tonight into finishing the initial framing beams, and this weekend... madness.

Teaser Shot from first few hours of work, which mainly consisted of using a TOP/SIDES/DOWN set of images in GIMP with the grid tool and lots of guide lines.

Width (at widest point): 256m

Height: ? - Haven't finished counting pixels, but near the nose no more than 40-50m.

My current expectations are that this ship will be *incredibly* turret heavy, with very few direct fire capable weapons. I don't even know whether it will be all that functional in game due to size, but I've wanted to do a project of this size for some time.

LEGIT BUILD: All blocks from this will be store-bought directly, crafted, or mined from stations or pirate vessels. No purchase-mining of existing ship designs for the blocks I need.

Most of the work so far has been on the front section, block count is already getting a bit insane.

Hah, the spacers up front are now 20m apart instead of just 10 - trying to conserve blocks where I can. I should be able to do another few sections tonight. The front section I did put some \"temporary\" decking in to see what I\'m looking at for space. Even that close to the front it fits two 3m height decks and one thats 6m in height. Not sure if I\'m going to go for 3 decks, but it was gratifying to see how absolutely HUGE the sucker was in terms of interior space available.

UPDATE:

I\'m going to get another shot at working on this tonight. I\'ll probably build another 30-40m up from the nose on the outer hull, and play around with more interior ideas/concepts. Should I go for tight corridors as opposed to more open \"decks\" (fits the original)? Also starting to consider turret ideas as well if anyone has good compact design ideas for \"effective\" relatively strong and small turrets, let me know.

Project temporarily on hold....

I moved Destiny to a new sector near a space station (free materials!), and as soon as I approached the station I dropped into single digit framerate territory. I restarted the server, and I haven\'t been able to get it to completely finish loading the sector. It just sort of stalls out (the server keeps running) reading the log it\'s actually lagging out on rendering the *station* not the ship. So trying to figure out what my next steps are. Since it\'s not loading the ship completely I haven\'t been able to \"enter\" it and simply move away.

Oie that sucks! Hope you are able to solve it because this is impressive, especially in it\'s scope. Hope you are saving the ship as you go along!

Up to Save # 11! I managed to save my ship (had to destroy_entity the station I was planning on mining ) but it fixed the issue. Moved it to a new shop to keep it \"safe\" and got to work! Pics in the UPDATE #3 post at the top, as well as a new \"profile\" image.

Ive seen a few destiny projects but as of yet none are finished, or or really not good, dont wanna say bad but

some need some divine intervention, however if your still working on it, or not let us know as i run a stargate

server myself and this ship could be intresting for the server i run.
