Server Concept

Just a little idea I had for a server.

A single planet plate would be massively increased in size, with the rest of the planet removed. There are no protections on this plate. People can and will need to mine materials and such from it. Underneath will be a station with faction protection to work as a layer of bedrock.

Thrusters are nerfed in a way that makes it very difficult to build large ships that can move. People are more likely to build ground vehicles that can't do much more than float a few blocks above the ground.

Shields would be disabled, since there is no way to prevent people from putting shields on the main plate and giving the planet shields.

Potential problems:

1. Underneath will be a station with faction protection to work as a layer of bedrock. How? is either a docked ship, or do stations from two sectors touch there?

2. I just imagine building this planet without support by schemas planet generator will take a lot of time.

3. You need to disable salvage beams to disable exponential gain.

4. What do you do with jump drives?

5?. Additionally you would have a ant-hive like segment with a lot of tunnels in it. To the degree that there is nothing but tunnels. Do you desire this?


Don't get me wrong - I would like a few such planets, but imagine the lag too.

I believe this is an idea for the future. The planets at this time are far to experimental and buggy. Also what is to prevent players from getting to space? If you want a full ground game at this time your best bet is a Starmade themed Minecraft server with some mods.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but can't you lock players into a single sector? I believe that option was added in the most recent update.

There are ways to get around that though. I just don't think that at this stage a only planetary server is at all viable.
