Rotating docking/turret ports?

I can't change the position of the green box for the turret and docking ports.
I've tried holding Left Control but it always says there are no orientation options available for the ports when placing them, and once they are placed all I seem to be able to do is delete them.

Sorry if I am missing something really simple here.

Hold down left contol, and hit period as many times as you need too until the block is facing the the direction you want it too. Don\'t worry about the simplicity of what you missed, I had no idea what to do either.

Ah there is one more thing though, can you change the direction the docked ship faces?
I\'ve got a small ship docked underneath a larger ship, but it always faces backwards.
I tried going through the period key and a few other keys (comma, backslash, semicolon, etc) but I haven\'t had any luck so far.
