Removing blocks

So i've recently started playing it after about a month of inactivity, and I cannot remove blocks. I have the remove on right click, and when I do it, it makes the removing noise but it doesn't remove the block. I hold down right click and a grid pops up and sort of "homes in" on the block but even after it gets to its smallest it doesn't remove the block. I looked through the forums and I seem to be the only one with this problem. Am I doing something wrong?

Its either Lag, or you're not close enough to the block I think.
The Beam starts hitting the block your looking at before you even get close enough to actually Mine it, so keep that in mind.

And Lag is self explanatory, Sometimes the server (or singleplayer) Lags and doesn't detect the block mining right. The hand laser is basically a small Salvage beam o -o
