I propose a system that keeps in line with StarMade's freedom of construction ideals and will add in the other missing half of gameplay focusing on the infantry side of things.
Two new factories.
The first being an Armor Factory.
The second being a Weapons Factory.
They won't work like default factories so much as workbenches, in which activating it will bring you into a very short range micro block placement system. A core, some micro blocks similar to the ship blocks, and whatnot - allowing you to not only customize your appearance, but your effectiveness in combat as well.
ALL functional parts other than armor and whatnot would have the wondrous benefit of *adjacency bonuses*. Proposed system is that power generation, weapon core, power storage, etc. are all exponential based on the block size, but having these parts connected to one another on more than two faces kills the bonus for the entire part. That way you could potentially have devastating weapons, but ONLY if they're designed well. The settings of weapons and whatnot would be determined by the style of power core used.
Armor function is where it gets interesting.
All of the abilities for ships are available in microblock form. Two Faction Color armor blocks are added in as well so that you can change your faction's colors and make emblems for the armor or just color the entire suit. Thrusters allow the armor to boost about in space, but have the same efficiency issues as large spacecraft - if not worse.
Both are given the capability for block destruction, and hitting the player's soft body is the only way to reduce actual HP - kinda like shooting for a core, but with a bigger target. Break power modules by cutting them off, etc.
For weaponry, you'd have a combination Computer/Module block that determines the style of weapon it is well beyond the ability to tweak the settings with the T menu. Sniper, machinegun, normal, etc.
The factory can save and load blueprints of these weapons, but rather than buying them, it runs off of the blocks in its inventory.
All parts are in the "Infantry" section of the Shop, under "Armor" and "Weapon" respectively.
