Particle Press tips?

I'm just getting started with crafting, and I can't seem to get the particle press to start running. WHat's the trick to getting it to run?



Also, I have a couple of factory blocks, but they keep flashing "Needs Power" at me. I'm on a station, so I know I have enough power. Any ideas as to what's wrong?
