I just discovered this game, and I have to say it's an awesome thing so far. This may be colored by the fact that I love playing minecraft, but that's irrelevant.
anywho, I was messing with the controls when I noticed one thing: there's no way to bind the mouse keys to other functions. Being a creature of habit, I wanted to set my controls to resemble the controls of X3, but that hit a snag when throttle wasn't something you could set, but rather you had to keep holding the forward key. So I wanted to rebind the shoot key to spacebar and the speed controls to my mouse.
So basically, the two suggestions are: create an option to lock your ship's engines at a certain level of thrust, and create options to bind the mouse buttons' functions to other keys and other functions to the mouse buttons.
