Never received Steam gift after linking

I bought SM back in.. 2014, I believe. I logged into my account today to get the Steam gift, but the gift was never received. I had purchased it a second time through Steam itself, and I guess that made the gift invalid? I don't know, but I wouldn't mind giving the second copy to a friend, since I've essentially purchased the game twice now..
