I was thinking some kind of crafted navigation bouy would be tremendously helpful, though implementation of a proper star map may render the necessity moot.
Basically a bouy would transmit a homing beacon that could be used to navigate to the bouy's location from great distances, which could be accessed from the navigation window. Perhaps the range could be determined by the number of power supply blocks used in it's construction.
Maybe if they're constructed with a faction block, then only members of that faction would see the homing signal (I'm not exactly sure how faction blocks work). That way you wouldn't be leading enemies to your doorstep.
Another possibility is to program them to transmit a MOTD to anyone who gets within a certain range. Something like "Welcome to Ed's Gas N' Go. Galaxy Puffs half price for one day only!"
We might also need some kind of limiter on them so that the nav window doesn't get jammed with them. Like maybe one per space station you control, or just make them really freaking expensive so you'd only place them in places you really need them.
