My weapons wont work. (Sometimes)

So I've been having this problem for a few months now where when I build a new ship and install a weapon's system it doesn't always work. When I try to fire it energy gets used up and the icon on bar at the bottom cycles through/cools down/ recharges or whatever, but the weapon doesn't actually fire. And it isn't that the shots aren't showing because I've tried shooting at other ships and shops and absolutely nothing happens.

Anyone have any ideas?

Check your weapon PC direction, it decides the direction it fires in.

What Crusade said. If that doesn't work increase the power storage capacity of your ship
