my suggestion, give the plex storage units only 1 row of space. You put down more blocks together get more rows, a la weapons etc. Would means you see more storage on ships and it actualy meaning something in terms of play; run abouts might have 1 or 2 in them (possibly linked or not), while space stations might have a giant safe where they keep all their precious things.
To expand the idea maybe do this with two blocks, a storage block and a storage expansion block, so you have one door block and expand it. All done with the C/V buttons.
