A Mass Driver would probably work like this, the shorter the driver is; the faster the driver fires. If you make the driver long, the damage and the reload speed increase ten-fold, to balance putting a giant alternative to the AMC on your ship and so the mass driver doesn't take the place of the AMC in standard gameplay.
Almost Forgot: The projectile would deal no damage to shields, so taking down shields with the AMC is a must, but it penetrates through hull and internal systems.
