I don't know if it was because it was a home hosted server. But no matter the size of the ship, if it crashed/rammed into a planet, my fps and anyone in the same sector would tank to 1 and the entire server for my small group of friends would become unplayable.

My uncle/cousins/friend built a star destroyer, we flew it to a planet...but when we got close to the planet the fps tanked to 1. The entire server became unplayable. We logged out, server reset...and we saw the planet had blown up, along with the ship. And ever after that, the server was unplayable and had to do a full reset on it. So we just stopped and joined another server.

Likewise, even a small mining ship. I was mining, and running into the planet to gather ice crystals...fps tanked to 8, entire server became unstable...until I stopped hitting the planet and went away from it, and server went back to normal.

Is it the game, the server not good enough or both. No amount of restarts fixed it on my uncle's server.

This occurred on MadRealms (a large EU server) earlier when a large ship crashed into another object. It seems the collision detection spazzes out and lags the whole server.

We had a very large ship crash into an extremely large station construct. It didn\'t crash the server (yay for strong hardware), but it did set CPU use to extremes and wound up grinding the entire area to 1FPS and eventually everyone in the area was dropped by the server. I would assume this is related to physics calculations.

This has also happend on ElwynEternity. This could be due to the physics lib they are using. Apperently it\'s a modded jBullet and I have heard of performance problems with that lib. I would look into something else (Spout has a project called React, not sure how good it works).
