Major glitches and lag

Everytime I place a block in build mode a large square turns invisible. Sometimes these areas will quickly turn back but other times they wont unless I restart the game.

Here is an example of me trying to build today, showing how it is near impossible:

Note that I have completed the hull so all the square holes are just invisible patches, not unfinished ship.
