This could be nice for any ship builder. What if you could build a core, like a ships core, that docked to your ship, but was a lifeboat/pod/escape vehicle. This way you could sotre your plex storage in them, and if you got in a tight spot you'd automatically, upon destruction of your core, be placed into there. This would allow for possiblity for escape with your loot. Obviously you could build around it to make an actual ship, but it could be destroyed like a ship to. Kind of like a second chance.

This would be a great idea, if the core would have some basic thrust/power-generation - that you get more thrust with just a core than a big ship.

And if you could actually use this thrust to fly faster than the big ship.

If you build a planet-sized ship (400x400 m) and 6 layers just thrusters, each module makes 5 thrust -> One thruster can carry 50 blocks!

With one core, one power, three thrusters, you get only 3 or 3.5 -> 1.5 thrust per block!

I was thinking more along the lines of a shuttle vs capital ship.

You can already build a shuttle for a capital ship, but if you have it docked in the ship and your capital\'s core gets crushed, then you get respawned at your spawn point. In this instance it would spawn you in the escape vessel, which you could undock and try to leave in. This would give you a chance at leaving the area with your loot, but also the challenge of not getting dusted from your enemies in the escape vessel too.

One would obviously want this to be small and fast with heavy sheilding and thrusters.

You\'d still be succeptible to fire, so really, it\'s all about your ability to sneak away with your secured stash no matter which vessel you built.

Perhaps instead of a ship core type deal, it could be a dedicated launch tube. The tube would be, let\'s say, 2 blocks long. Model sized. You would place it on the exterior of the ship, perhaps flush with the hull, facing the direction you\'d want to eject. If your core is destroyed, you can opt to use it, and it shoots you and your tiny little pod thing out into space. It would be fast (meh) but difficult or impossible to control, and when you leave it, perhaps it self-destructs.

    Just a thought.

Maybe it could eject you not only and throw you away, but the docking/main-ship-side part have some sort of FTL-sling-shot for a half sector to get you out of danger.

The bigger this ship, the bigger your escape pods are allowed to be (and the more are allowed + the more you have the smaller a single).

I think it would fit nice with the idea (not mine) to give small things like core+power+thruster+thruster+any (5 weight) perma-jamming.
