Yes. Another one.
Feel free to shout at me, but I really, really don't care about these naming conventions that come along with ships like Corvette, Destroyer, Titan, etc.
To me, classifying a ship is more about size and docking, because I don't want to dock somewhere I don't know I'll be safe, for example, if my ship is one block too big to dock and I have to leave it drifting.
So how about this: We take two classifications, one being Brolak's, as it is based on purpose and mass, and we take Morhe's Icarthian Docking Classification System, both of which I've put below:
http://star-made.org/content/classification-easy-and-usefull-bybrolak
http://star-made.org/content/icarthian-docking-classification-system
Okay, so here's the general formula:
[DockingClass][Purpose][Mass][Speciality]_ShipName
See how easy that is?
For example, one of my fighters would be:
[A][X][0.1]_Phoenix because it fits into a Class A dock, it's a fighter, it has (around) 90 mass, which is closer to 100 mass than 0, so it rounds up to 0.1, and it has no specialities like a turret or drone designation, cloaking or jamming.
The Icarthian Docking system is as follows:
Docking Classes:
All ships that are wider than they are tall go to Class X Wide, and have a W added after their class letter, to which docks must be made specifically for these ships.
Brolak's classification is as follows:
[X][NNN][Y]_ShipName_Author
X : for principal using, replace by :
T = Transport,
L = Logistics (Astro-beam, powersupply beam),
X = Fight,
S = Salvager,
N : mass in ktonnes (100 000 blocks) = 10 000 mass = 10
Y : Optional who indicates specificity like it is a drone or a turret, ship is a perma cloak or jam.
Dr = drones,
Tr = turrets,
Cl = perma-Cloack
Jam = perma-RadarJammer
So there you go, my joint method of ship classification as I enter it into my catalog.
