I am fairly new to Starmade but so far i enjoy it. Its as if minecraft and space engineers had a baby. This beautiful baby.

Anyways, i am trying to figure out crafting. I kinda feel like i have wasted 2 days harvesting planets and pounding through google with zero results. Tho, i guess when i do figure out crafting i have a nice supply of items.

As far as i can tell any information i have found on google dosent matter any more? For example

    http://www.starmadewiki.com/wiki/Tutorials/Factory_Guide

I have found no factory blocks just a factory enhancer. Plus i have taken out 2 ice planets and 2 mars/red planets for plextanium which i am starting to believe dosent exist anymore.

So what is the current info on crafting? Where do i get started? What do i need? Are there clear instructions on the current crafting system?

For example, one of my starting goals is to make hardened hulls of a variety of colors. What mats do i need? How much of each mat? What are the steps to get from raw mats to hulls i can make ships/stations out of?

    A useful series: http://starmadedock.net/threads/another-crafting-only-survival-lets-play.2456/
You can find nacht now, the bug has been fixed.

    Tips:
    • Invest in big salvage ships first.
    • Link a certain amount of salvage cannons to an equal amount of cannon barrels, by pressing c on the salvage computer and v on the cannon computer.
    • Don't make the individual arrays too long when linking, single salvage cannons work too.
    • The rocks on asteroids are needed to create hull.
    • Planets have the most ors/crystals, even multiple types, so salvage them for loads of resources.
    • Different asteroids have different ores/crystals, and the same asteroid types always have the same ore and crystal type.
    • Some planets have more of certain ores/crystals than others. You might want to start with purple planets, as they mostly have the resources needed for cannons and power storage tanks.

A lot of the information isn't posted to wikis because the game is not big enough to warrant it. A lot of stuff is still out of date because crafting just got an overhaul.

Even the shittiest games get some sort of half-decent wiki. I've been saying for ages that we need to work on it. I've tried, but I don't have the information the devs and Shroom Fleet do.

They still use pictures from before the old texture pack...

it is rather disappointing and off putting. Minecraft you can google how to make anything and have the information in 5 seconds.

This game 2 days and i havent made anything.

Maybe the dev team needs to do a video about their daily work if many peoples like you think they need a hour for just a little line of code :p

The problem is that their is no infrastructure on the wiki and no public link to it (which could say "WIP")

Wikis are meant to be written by peoples, maybe with a date when something got written and an outdated-sign when something is outdated.

Op, you gotta keep in mind that the game is in alpha. In terms of numbers there is not a massive community and that even people that get early access to information do not know everything. That being said, it would be cool to see official update videos. Tominos stuff is great but its also not as focused as a dev vlog would be. There are also like two wikis or more. It would be nice to just establish one as the legit wiki and start adding to it.

Ya its still in alpha but isint it just a good idea to inform what community there is on how to play the game?

I just find it distasteful. One of the main attractions to the game appears to be crafting, a system i cant figure out.

Welcome to starmade, you can craft items but we cant tell you how. Good luck!

Am i supposed to sit for hours at a crating lock putting in items gueeing and hoping i run into how to craft the items i am after?

See it as progress in a multi-server teching system to learn how it works.

There really wasn't any in-game information on how to craft in Minecraft when it came out. All of that was user generated. Starmade at least starts off with a tutorial and gives a recipe for the first few items by checking the options in your own inventory. Once you get the first assembler you can discover its recipe by using it and selecting what you want with the drop down. I am under the impression that changes to the crafting will be made because of user feedback. Once that happens I bet there will be more information as it will be more streamlined.

Once you select what you want to build in a Macro Factory block, you can click on the button to the right of the selection button to get an in-game diagram on how to make it, and what is involved, with color coding telling you whether the component comes from a Macro factory block (in which most final blocks are built), a Micro factory block (builds crystals and metal mesh, key components for most final blocks), or a Refinement block (builds capsules of various kinds, used all along the factory sequence, in both Micro and Macro factories).

Avoid building out-of-date blocks like Schemadyne factory blocks. These are from old crafting systems that are no longer used. Basically try to stick with what you can find for sale in a shop. Especially core-functionality blocks like reactor blocks, since those are less likely to be replaced or changed in future updates.

Plextanium is now simply called glass. That kind of makes me sad. I liked the fancier name.

I think I remember reading that there was a special key you can press to save an image of the factory diagram to disk, but I forget what that is. Failing that, you can always take a screenshot (F5) to capture the factory diagram for the current manufacturing block.

You're mostly better off to just sell stuff at shops and then buy the materials you need. To be honest, the balance of the current crafting system is more tilted towards.... uh... an extremely hardcore play style (as in making a single shield block is extremely tenuous).

    ^^^ This

Besides OP, there are plenty of tutorials on how to do crafting in game. If ANYTHING, it's easier than minecraft. I dunno what that says about your level of incompetence

Wow, did you not get the part where i said im a new player?

Not everyone joins a game and instantly knows everything about the game. They kinda have to learn how things work, which i am attempting to do.

Bunny, i tried google. As far as i could tell a lot of information i did find was no longer relevant due to the current changes.

That was why i started this thread. Trying to make heads or tails with the mis information and the no longer relevant information.

I would rather ask the community for direct answers rather then wasting another 2 days looking at youtube vids/wiki pages/forum thread and learning information that is no longer in the game.

But you did click on my links, right? Because there are loads of films out there, and the forums have some information too.

The first link goes to a search result on the forums. This is quite a new forum, and there shouldn't be a lot of information on the old crafting system.
The second link is a search result on google. It has a 'since time', meaning that you won't get all the old crafting videos, but only the new ones.

I understand why you did it. There is indeed loads of now irrelevant information out there, and searching through all that can be quite annoying, not to mention that it will take really, really long.

Besides, this forum is supposed to be a place where people can ask questions like this, and
People are expected to help, not criticise their motives.

I hope you have fun playing this game. There is a universe update coming, which will make this crafting system even better. So be sure to

Yes i did bunny and they are helping a lot.

I am having an issue with one thing i cant figure out yet. In the regular inventory UI there is craft capsule that turns raw ores into capsules, 1 ore at a time.

Is there a way to speed this up? I need to turn thousands of ores into capsules and 1 ore at a time is rather slow lol.[DOUBLEPOST=1410663102,1410662670][/DOUBLEPOST]Nevermind, its the purple box thingy. Yay! i can do multi ores at once and its like 4 times faster
