How do I control NPC's?

I bought an NPC at a shop on a multiplayer server. My only conversation options are to ask him to leave/join my crew, and "goodbye." I'd like to get him on my ship, at a minimum, and perhaps assign him to a weapon or something. Can anyone point me to a link or something? Thank you.

You can make them follow you and move to places and shoot things I think

Press and Hold Left Control while in astronaut Mode, and a small menu should appear on the middle-Left hand side, and should stay there until you let go of it :u

Use 1-6 to select and issue basic commands to your current following crew * ^*

TRhey cant enter a core or computer yet, but you can have them stand around as guards (They are OP compared to the player xD)

I'd like to at least see an extremely basic form of fleet control, just for the time being. Just a few simple commands like "follow" "wait" "go to" "hold fire" "fire at will" would be enough for me.
