I think that there needs to be some sort of an auto-pilot so that when you're flying long distances across the universe, your finger can take a break from the W 
, also this can give you chance to walk about your ship whilst still in motion.
Along with this, there should be an alert system so that when you are in auto pilot mode and say, an astroid is going to obstruct your path you can then correct your course.
I also think that when another ship is docked to your ship, if your are the owner of that ship then you should be able to switch between the two, like changing cockpits, only with ships.
