Help me please

I just bought the game through steam and wanted to start playing. When I got in, everything was turning invisible off and on besides the AI and the ships. I am on version 0.189997 and I tried to make a new world or reboot my computer and nothing worked. Any help?

Ensure that you are using the default texture pack. If that fails, try to just lower settings as far as you can.

Oh, and make sure that occlusion culling is off.

Need some more info. Do you know what kind of video card you have? (nVidea or ATI)

As long as the seconds of unresponsiveness don't add up in those messages, you can safely ignore them on singleplayer.
