Just a query, does this mean we\'ll soon need a steam account to play, because, erm, I refuse to install it, much less assign my details to them.

Regardless, congratulations, well deserved accolade! :)

However, as iStormUK said, please don\'t force us to use steam to download/play/update this game. Some, perhaps many, of us really don\'t like steam.

There\'s many games that are distributed through Steam as well as through the developer\'s own website. One example is Spiral Knights. You can use Steam to login to Spiral Knights, but you don\'t have to.

If we purchase StarMade now from the dev site for $6, will we recieve a steam activation key later on when the game is released or will have to re-purchase within the steam store? since some of us also prefer having ALL of our games running though steam.

Squad\'s game Kerbal Space Program has the options for buying it from Steam or from the develop site directly. Buying from either doesn\'t require acquisition or play from the other; in fact, in their case you don\'t even need Steam running to play the game once you have it.

Since Starmade is already being purchased from this site, it\'s quite possible that when Steam hosts the game that people will still be able to get the key more-or-less the way you already have, while those who have Steam can choose to get it through that.

As SnakeMittens pointed out, KSP is not the only one doing this. Many games are going the Steam-Or-No-Steam options to give convenience of choice.

If you didn\'t notice, this is an old topic from back in July. Please don\'t necropost.

(Also, BTW, it has already been promised that Steam will never be a requirement for playing Starmade.)
