I was on my server and I put up about 30 shields. I had my friend go into his weapons computer and fire some lasers at me. The shields supressed the damage and it showed them going down. Then he went to his core and fired the exact same lasers, but when they were fired from his core, they bypassed my shields and immediately started damaging me, and my shields still appeared to be full on the HUD.
