Game is a sandbox, so whatever you'd want ideally
    >Lua scripting for custom quest dialogue
    >Custom factions and AI (derelicts would be possible with that)
    >Shipyards plus a HP system (for hull purpose)
    >Moving parts in the form of rails/spinning bits
    >Procedural mobs
    >Modding
    >AI fleets (to follow you around)
    >etc

A small list that I recall from the top of my head

There are tons of possibilities with the game that also haven't really been discussed. Things like research. More depth to exploration. More factions than just the pirates and trading guild. More features for ships, stations planets. More objects in the explore-able universe. Perhaps there will be ancient structures that have wild effects on passing ships or ancient gates that teleport you to special "dungeon sectors". It's totally possible considering we have the tutorial sector already.

The way I see it is this. Take the bare minimum of all the successful space-faring games out there and add it to starmade. That's what I expect for the end product.

    Sounds Great!

    I have found this:
"After lots of hours of work, a new system has been implemented: AI Universe Simulation. This system is a new layer on top of the AI, that is already in place. It abstracts a ship to a name, and can move it across the universe whether it's currently loaded because a player is near, or only an entry in the database. The whole database migration from the beginning of the year was targeted to do exactly that as efficient as possible.
The system works in ticks and can handle thousands of ships at once.

One of the first example of this new system is that shooting a shop now actually has consequences. If a player repeatedly shoots a shop, the trading guild will send out a fleet against him.

Furthermore pirates now operate much more focused. They will randomly patrol the space, and try to raid enemy ships. They will also send out parties from their stations to nearby players, as long as that station is not destroyed. Patrolling pirates will avoid faction space stations, but pirate stations will still attack as long as they are not destroyed."

That is some old news right there. Of course some of these things still happen such as facing a fleet after firing at a shop. But I have not truly seen pirates patrol sectors of space. I hardly see pirates at all anymore. Maybe that's just me and my settings.

Not just your settings, they don't to random patrols, though they still send out raids to nearby players to their bases.

OP: minecraft is not just a creative building game.

A creative building game would not include flight or ship combat mechanics. Really Snk, you should know better.
Or, you know, a relatively balanced mode that requires crafting mode.

Technically, SM is ONLY survival. "Creative" doesn't exist. You can just spawn things in with admins commands.

I'm gonna be the devil's advocate here and say it is. The gameplay is not stimulating, and most of the community consists of shipbuilders. Most of the game play revolves around ships and ship construction. The flight and combat mechanics are there to provide a justification for the ships.

I agree that shipbuilding is probably the most interesting aspect of the game right now, but I believe that combat and survival are well on their way to become enjoyable as well. A lot of people already enjoy them. Also bear in mind that most servers where people play that way have their own forums and communities, and I would guess a lot of those people don't come here too often.

Your opinion that the gameplay isn't fun currently doesn't mean that the game is a creative building game. The game doesn't even have a creative mode, only survival (or, limited resources, anyway).

It seems every suggestion to make the game harder is repulsed by the community.

(Also guys, I don't really believe in my point, I am simply arguing to spur some intelligent discussion. I've found the community does not like the idea of survival mode and tends to treat the game like a creative shipbuilding game, especially the new members of the community.)

It's only creative in singleplayer or if you own the server. Otherwise the multiplayer aspect is leaning towards survival. I personally can't wait for suvival aspects of the game to come out.

I'd like to see some examples of this. I mainly see people asking for the game to be more challenging after you overcome the isanths, so... not sure where you got this idea.

I think he is talking about all the mandatory-crew, min-max'n, give-everything-a-purpose kinda suggestions. The suggestions I've seen him active in are the ones that give combat boosts for having crew/certain setups/etc, that kinda thing.

All skill in the game currently comes from the shipbuilding part, in the sense the ship is only as good as you build it, and the vast majority of people here (myself included) believe it should stay that way.

I would have to disagree just a bit, piloting well and choosing your shots can mean a lot.
