A FTL Drive added into the game would be a warp drive, obviously. What this would allow you do to, would be to jump many sectors over, but it would require a large amount of power, meaning that only a large ship could support a FTL Drive. Now, put simply, you would open up a FTL tab, select a sector, and then you would be warp there after a couple seconds of having little to no power, and weakened shields. And damage done to engines would result in a 'Delayed FTL.'

Yes, this is massively stealing ideas from Faster Than Light, so yes, names would need to be changed. But my friend and I were talking, and after having to fly for a solid 20-25 minutes to reach a safe sector to build a base in, decided that that would be a good idea.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

Sorry, don\'t mean to be rude, but this forum is nearly full to the brim now with duplicate threads. Check out one of the other FTL threads and pick up the conversation there. One of them is still on the front page.

What engines? Unlike in FTL you don\'t have real engine locations in Starmade

First of all... Could anyone, anywhere, ever, check existing topics?

Second, \"warp\" is usually associated with faster-than-light propulsion based on somehow accelerationg to actual hyperluminal velocities and traversing distance over time in regular space, not instanteneous jumping. Thats a jumpdrive.

Third, what do you mean by \"stealing ideas from faster than light\"? You\'re speaking of it as if the concept, acronym and mechanic all had a specific and shared creator?

Edit: Sorry, I didn\'t understand you were referring to the game Ftl, not the concept itself. I\'m not sure if it could be considered \"stealing\", with jump drives being a well-established concept long before the creation of that game.

Fourth, as I\'ve said in every other near-identical thread for this idea, it seems mostly reasonable, though I belive I would prefer the preserved actual \"travelling\' aspect of a warp, or even better, hyperspace drive.
